Lymphedema treatment decreases pain intensity in lipedema.

Szolnoky G, Varga E, Varga M, Tuczai M, Dósa-Rácz E, Kemény L. Lymphedema treatment decreases pain intensity in lipedema. Lymphology. 2011 Dec;44(4):178-82. PMID: 22458119. This study found that a 5-day lipedema treatment program combining manual lymph drainage, pneumatic compression, compression bandaging, skin care, and walking significantly reduced leg pain and leg volume in women with lipedema.

The Role of Intermittent Pneumatic Compression in the Treatment of Lower Extremity Chronic Wounds

James C, Park SY, Chan M, Khajoueinejad N, Alabi D, Lee J, Lantis JC 2nd. The Role of Intermittent Pneumatic Compression in the Treatment of Lower Extremity Chronic Wounds. Surg Technol Int. 2021 May 20;38:79-86. doi: 10.52198/21.STI.38.WH1417. PMID: 33765323. This clinical study reports that Lympha Press intermittent pneumatic compression, used alongside multilayer compression therapy, was associated with smaller wound size, reduced leg circumference, and improved symptoms in patients with chronic lower-extremity wounds related to venous and/or lymphatic disease.

Can Physical Therapy Techniques Slow Down the Progression of Lipedema? Lymphat Res Biol

Esmer M, Schingale FJ. Can Physical Therapy Techniques Slow Down the Progression of Lipedema? Lymphat Res Biol. 2024 Dec;22(6):267-270. doi: 10.1089/lrb.2024.0065. Epub 2024 Oct 9. PMID: 39381855. This study found that complex decongestive therapy combined with Lympha Press Optimal Plus® pneumatic compression reduced both extracellular and intracellular fluid in women with lipedema, suggesting it helps manage swelling and may slow disease progression by reducing the fluid burden.

Nonpainful wide-area compression inhibits experimental pain

Honigman L, Bar-Bachar O, Yarnitsky D, Sprecher E, Granovsky Y. Nonpainful wide-area compression inhibits experimental pain. Pain. 2016 Sep;157(9):2000-2011. doi: 10.1097/j.pain.0000000000000604. PMID: 27152691; PMCID: PMC4988085. This study found that gentle, nonpainful lymphatic drainage pneumatic compression over a large body area reduced experimentally induced pain in healthy adults, indicating that large area compression may have a pain-relieving effect beyond its role in edema reduction. The researchers referred to this effect as “compression induced analgesia.”

Effect of Physical Therapy on Circumference Measurement and Extremity Volume in Patients Suffering from Lipedema with Secondary Lymphedema

Esmer M, Schingale FJ. Effect of Physical Therapy on Circumference Measurement and Extremity Volume in Patients Suffering from Lipedema with Secondary Lymphedema. Lymphat Res Biol. 2024 Feb;22(1):8-11. doi: 10.1089/lrb.2023.0013. Epub 2023 Oct 3. PMID: 37787957. This study performed with Lympha Press® Optimal Plus found that combined physical therapy—complex decongestive therapy plus advanced pneumatic compression—reduced leg size and volume in patients with lipedema and secondary lymphedema.

Effect of pneumatic compression therapy on lymph movement in lymphedema-affected extremities, as assessed by near-infrared fluorescence lymphatic imaging

Aldrich MB, Gross D, Morrow JR, Fife CE, Rasmussen JC. Effect of pneumatic compression therapy on lymph movement in lymphedema-affected extremities, as assessed by near-infrared fluorescence lymphatic imaging. J Innov Opt Health Sci. 2017 Mar;10(2):1650049. doi: 10.1142/S1793545816500498. Epub 2016 Sep 28. PMID: 29104671; PMCID: PMC5665410. This imaging study showed direct visual evidence that Lympha Press® advanced pneumatic compression therapy helps move lymph fluid through lymphatic vessels and surrounding tissues in people with lower-limb lymphedema.
